Action Research Outline

My action research outline explores how adaptive learning platforms impact third-grade math achievement, with a focus on place value, whole number operations, and fractions. Using a mixed-methods design, I analyze both student performance data and classroom experiences to better understand how technology supports mastery of key TEKS concepts and STAAR success. This study aims to highlight not just the academic gains, but also the engagement and confidence that adaptive tools can foster in young learners.

 

Literature Review

My  literature review examines the impact of adaptive learning platforms on third-grade mathematics achievement, with a focus on foundational skills like place value, whole number operations, and fractions. Research highlights the potential of AI-driven, game-based, and rule-based platforms to personalize learning, boost engagement, and improve outcomes aligned to TEKS and STAAR standards. While promising, the findings also emphasize the need to address challenges like infrastructure, teacher training, and data privacy to fully realize the benefits of adaptive learning in classrooms.

Action Research Plan 

My action research plan explores how adaptive learning platforms impact third-grade students’ mastery of key math skills—place value, whole number operations, and fractions. These skills are foundational in the Texas TEKS curriculum and are assessed on the STAAR test. Using a mixed-methods approach, I will analyze both student achievement data and classroom experiences to evaluate the effectiveness of platforms like IXL, DreamBox, and i-Ready. This research aims to give teachers real insight into how these tools can personalize learning, boost engagement, and improve outcomes in real classrooms.

Contributions to Learning  

In EDLD 5315: Assessing Digital Learning and Instruction our "Contribution to Learning" assignment encouraged us to actively engage with course materials and collaborate with peers. By participating in discussions, offering constructive feedback, and applying course concepts to real-world educational settings, I was able to enhance both my own understanding and that of my classmates. This assignment emphasized the importance of collaboration, reflection, and the practical application of digital learning assessment strategies, fostering a supportive learning community and promoting continuous professional growth.
